Mao Hamasaki

Biography

Biography

In 2017 she moved into professional wrestling, and between 2017 and 2020 she worked on the Extreme roster of the BATTLE organisation, where she held the Extreme Championship once. A short stint with Infinity X followed in 2022. Wrestling is a useful lens on her film work because it asks for the same things: timing, the ability to take a hit and sell it, and a body that can be thrown around a mat and still look composed at the end. The ring also gave her a live audience, which is a different discipline from a set with a crew and a call sheet.

She stepped away from adult film in 2018 and became an international DJ, playing across Southeast Asia, and on 9 August 2024 she announced that she had retired from adult film for good. The transition is less of a break than it looks. A DJ set and a shoot both run on stamina and on reading a room, and both reward a performer who can hold attention without a script. What she leaves behind is a body of work large enough to read as a record of an era in Japanese adult film, and a second career built on the same physical confidence.
